Admissions Procedure

The parent/guardian must accompany the student at registration time. Luz registers students by appointment on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:30 - 4:30 during the school year. You must call and schedule an interview. During the summer, we accept appointments on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 9:00-3:00. If these hours are not convenient for you, please call so we can make other arrangements.

You must present a complete admissions packet at the time of the interview. Packets may be picked up from 8:30 - 3:30 Monday through Friday from the registrars office. A complete packet includes

                                                    •  A completed application form

                                                     •  A copy of the student's birth certificate

• An official transcript from previous school or, if registering after the Fall semester begins, the most recent progress report of grades or the Fall semester report card. You must have a promotion certificate from 8th grade if you are a freshman. Terra Nova scores from previous years and AIMS test scores should be provided, however the application can be processed without them.

                                                     •  A school lunch application

                                                    •  A home language survey

                                                     •  An original immunization record

                                                    •  Immunizations MUST be current

•  An emergency information/medical history form

When you come for registration, plan to spend approximately 1 hour for the registration interview. During this interview parents will have the opportunity to speak with a representative from the administration and a faculty representative. Parents will be provided with information about the expectations for all students who attend

Luz-Guerrero Early College High School in order to ensure the best possible educational experience for your child. While the parents are completing their interview process, the prospective student will be completing an a hand-written essay, a math placement test, and a Spanish placement test. These will be given to the appropriate teachers to review.

After the interview process, students will be notified to pick up their schedules during the first week of August. At this time, students will meet with the nurse to determine if their immunizations are up-to-date. Students whose immunizations are not up-to-date will not be allowed to attend class until proof of current immunizations are turned in to the nurse.

Changes in your class schedule will only be made to satisfy graduation requirements, gain college credits, or to prevent repetition of a course. Schedule changes must be approved by a parent/guardian, the School Counselor and must have the signatures of the teachers involved. In addition, an approval for a schedule change must have the signature of the Principal or Assistant Principal. Generally, in order to receive credit for a course, you must be enrolled in a class by the tenth day of the semester. If your student enrolls after the tenth day, the teacher will provide packets of work for your student to complete in order to bring your student current with the classroom activities. If your student does not complete the requested work, they may not receive credit for the course.
